Where to Rent Ski Gear Near Northstar

You don't have to rent at Northstar Village. There are several local shops in Truckee with better prices, less wait, and often better gear. Here's the rundown.

For the best value

Tahoe Dave's Skis & Boards (downtown Truckee, ~15 min from the condo) is the locals' shop. Prices run $40–55/day for ski packages vs $60–80 at Northstar Village. Walk-in service is fast on weekdays. They also rent kid gear, snowboards, and snowshoes.

For zero-effort

BlackTie Ski Rentals delivers boots and skis directly to the condo. A technician shows up with the right sizes, fits everyone, and picks the gear back up at the end of your stay. Pricier ($55–75/day) but worth it for a group with kids or anyone who hates ski-shop lines. Book at least 48 hours ahead.

For demo / performance gear

Sports LTD in Northstar Village has the highest-end fleet — current-year Volkls, Atomics, and Stöcklis with daily demo swaps. If you're an intermediate-plus skier looking to try a new model, this is the right shop.

What to bring vs. rent

  • Bring your own: helmet, goggles, base layers, socks. Cheaper and more sanitary.
  • Rent: skis, boots, poles. Not worth flying with.
  • Maybe rent: snowboards (the rental fleet has gotten better; selection matters more than ownership unless you have a specific board you love).

Storage at the condo: there's a ski locker by the entry and a heated garage, so you can leave wet boots overnight without them freezing. See the condo →
